What's the point of hope?

Things could go terribly wrong in the next day, hour, minute, 10 seconds. You could pray all night to God or Allah or Jah and never ever feel your prayers were answered. I could get cancer and die before ever stepping foot into 2006. So could you. Terrible things happen every day to people who have hope, who pray and who believe good things will happen, so why bother?

Star Jones believed that because she honeymooned in tsunami-country and left before it hit, she was somehow blessed. So does that mean that the hundreds of thousands of people who died weren't blessed? God was like, "Screw all these people, but make sure we save Star Jones." That's a pretty self-obsessed reason to believe in God. If anything the fact that so many people died is a good reason to not believe in God.

I guess just the fact you're alive is a pretty big blessing, even if it is just a coincidence or a matter of chance. Don't get me wrong...I won't go so far as to profess that I'm alive because I'm special. Or because God loves me and has a purpose for my life. Even if it is just a matter of chance or coincidence, it is still a pretty cool opportunity. And to spend it worrying about all the shitty things that could happen would be a waste. To sit around being cynical and doubtful and never living is tragic.
In my opinion, if you don't have hope, what's the point?
