Can I pledge allegiance?

I got this off a messsage board a local newstation's website.

"[he] thinks that allowing=forcing and that banning=preserving rights. If you look at any totalitarian regime you will find they enforce their will not by requiring adherence to their principles, but by banning all others. Dictators often trumpet the fact that they don't force people to follow their views and they aren't lying. Freedom and choice are never real when some of the choices are banned. "
